YANN GEFFROY AWARD
XIX EDITION - 2008
On February 19th, 2008 the Yann Geffroy Award has been assigned by Grazia Neri Agency.
The jury of the Award: Grazia Neri, Elena Ceratti, Elena Balzano, Eliseo Barbŕra,
Daria Bonera, Paola Riccardi, assigned the prize to the photographer
ALFREDO COVINO
for the photography essay "Repubblica di Moldova, cara Moldova” (Moldova’s Republic, dear Moldova) documenting the choice of a Moldovan family, migrated to Rome for economic reasons, of coming back every summer in their born place, Floresti, finding there, once again with pleasure and emotion, their everyday life, the familiar links, the friends still living there.
The photographer succeeded in showing, with a strict and participative style, the deep cultural and affective value of the belonging to your own land and identity, expecially for migrant families and in particular for those coming from Eastern Europe. The jury strongly suggests the photographer to continue his work showing the family during its life in Rome.
The prize of 1.550,00 euros will be assigned on March 20th 2008 at the Grazia Neri Agency, via Maroncelli 14 - 20154 Milano, or kept there at the photographer’s disposal. |

THE JURY HAS ASSIGNED AN HONOUR-MENTIONS TO:
Giulio DI STURCO for the color work “Piduguralla, l’inferno dell’India”, (Piduguralla, India’s hell), documenting the life of the inhabitants of an Indian village, working in hard conditions in a lime cave. For having shown the positive helping of scholastic and formative projects organized for their children by the ONGs Assist and Mani Tese, and also the families’ efforts to recreate and keep acceptable familiar relationships even in that condition.
We would like to point out that some projects of a good quality, unanimously praised by the jury, have been excluded from the competition because of the lack of a presentation text or because they did not fully meet the Prize requirement of a story with a positive outcome. Please send always the contactsheets together with the CD.
We take the chance to remind that the Yann Geffroy Award was established in 1990 to remember a member of the Agency who tragically died young and was full of creativity and positive qualities. For this reason the Prize is traditionally assigned to photographic stories that express, both in the content and in the form, the positive outcome of a social, political, scientifical or ecological issue.
